Five of the Best Road Trip Songs to add to Your Playlist

Whether you’re cruising along the coastal highways, weaving your way through endless rainforests or setting your cruise control for a long stretch of unbroken road through the Australian outback, a good road trip playlist is essential.

Now, I understand that everyone is different and our tastes in music can vary, that’s why this article isn’t titled ‘The absolute undeniable, unarguable, must-have top 10 road trip songs’, it’s simply a collection of a few iconic tracks that I believe deserve a spot on everybody’s road trip playlist.

Born to Run – Bruce Springsteen

It’s difficult to listen to this song and not picture yourself cruising down a beachside highway (ideally in a convertible) with the speakers blaring and your mates around you.

A timeless classic – turn the stereo up for this one.

Panama – Van Halen

Windows down, speakers loud, hair flying everywhere. This rock ‘n roll classic is instantly recognisable as soon as it comes on.

The face-melting sounds of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar resonate throughout the track, and I’d like to meet anyone who doesn’t scream ‘PANAMA’ each time the chorus plays.

Blinding Lights – The Weeknd

A more modern feature of our collection, blinding lights literally tells the story of an overnight road trip. Rather fitting, right?

This 80’s-inspired pop track provided a soundtrack for millions of people throughout 2020, just try not to do the Tik Tok dance when you’re behind the wheel.

Holding out for a Hero – Bonnie Tyler

If you have ever watched any TV, literally ever, then I’m sure you’ve heard this song.

This 80’s pop ballad features tones that bring life to any adventure, hence why it features so heavily in Hollywood. A must-have inclusion in your road trip playlist.

Born to be Wild – Steppenwolf

‘Get your motor runnin’, head out on the highway.’

Do I need any further explanation? Born to be Wild by Steppenwolf embodies the spirit of a road trip, from the lyrics right down to the bass line.

A proper headbanging tune that is a true staple of any good road trip playlist.
