How can I make a claim?

You can lodge a Motor Vehicle claim in one of three ways:

Simply call us on 1800 999 977 during business hours to lodge a claim over the phone, You can lodge your Motor Vehicle claim online, or Download a claim form from our website, complete it and send it to us via claims@ericinsurance.com.au, POST (PO Box 9106 Scoresby VIC 3179).

What information do I need to provide in the event of a claim?

Ensure that you provide a detailed incident description, including details of any other party involved. We will also require a copy of the front and back of your driver’s licence as well as the licence of anyone driving the car or responsible for the car at the time of the accident. We may also request additional information and documentation to assist with the processing of your claim.

What other action will I need to take?

Take all reasonable steps to prevent or minimise further loss, damage or liability.
Provide us with all additional information and help which we may reasonably require to process your claim, for example obtaining your driving or criminal history, if applicable, when requested.

Assist us to recover, in your name, any amount we have paid on your claim, from the person who caused you to suffer the loss or damage. Provide us with an opportunity to inspect any loss or damage before you have repairs carried out.

Assist with any investigation of the circumstances of your claim.

What do I do if a claim is made against me?

If you have been involved in an accident and have received a demand for payment from the other person (or their insurer), contact us as soon as possible on 1800 999 977 to lodge a claim.

If you have already lodged a claim, send us any demand for payment that you have received via EMAIL (claims@ericinsurance.com.au), POST (PO Box 9106 Scoresby VIC 3179).

Do not admit, deny or negotiate any claim with any person without Eric’s prior consent or approval.

What should I do if my car has been stolen or vandalised?

Notify the Police and then us immediately if your motor vehicle is stolen, maliciously or intentionally damaged. If your vehicle has been recovered after a theft, it should not be driven until it has been assessed by us.

Am I covered for a Hire Vehicle?

If your vehicle is stolen during the Period of Insurance we will pay the reasonable cost of hiring a similar vehicle up to $500. Contact us on 1800 999 977 for further information, or to arrange a hire vehicle. This benefit is for Comprehensive Insurance policy holders only.

 

Who can repair my car?

We allow you to choose your repairer, however, you must provide us with an opportunity to inspect any loss or damage before you have repairs carried out. In addition, we will only cover repairs authorised to a licensed repairer and we reserve the right to nominate the repairer to be used. If you do not have a preferred repairer in your area, we can assist with arranging a quote, in conjunction with you.

Am I covered for a Windscreen repair or replacement?

Yes, if you have selected the Windscreen cover option, you are covered for the repair or replacement of one front windscreen per policy period, up to the maximum value specified in your policy document. This benefit is for Comprehensive Insurance policy holders only.

Am I covered for Essential (Emergency) Repairs?

We will pay up to $300 for essential repairs to your vehicle following damage during the Period of Insurance to enable you to reach your destination or place of safety. This benefit is for Comprehensive Insurance policy holders only.

What if I have to make a claim?

You can make a quick and easy claim online. You can download the claim form, complete it and send it to us as soon as possible after your Comprehensive insurance claim has been settled. For assistance with completing the claim form, contact us on 1800 999 977.

Send us your fully completed claim form via EMAIL (claims@ericinsurance.com.au), POST (PO Box 9106 Scoresby VIC 3179).

We will also require the following documents:
A copy of the Comprehensive Motor Settlement letter
A copy of your vehicle Registration certificate

Once we receive your claim form, we will contact your financier to discuss the settlement of your loan.
We may also request additional information and documentation to assist with the processing of your claim.

If I elect the Vehicle Hand Back option, do I have to go to the original dealer?

The original selling dealer will be able to provide you with a hand back valuation on your vehicle. If you are not able to take the vehicle to the dealer (such as due to time or distance restrictions), another licenced dealer for the same make and model vehicle as your vehicle can provide a hand back quote.

Can I sell the vehicle privately?

No, the policy requires that the vehicle be handed back to the dealer in order to claim under the hand back section of the policy.

If I become Involuntarily Unemployed, do I need to register with a relevant Government agency (e.g. Centrelink)?

In order for us to consider a claim for Involuntary Unemployment, you must register as unemployed with a relevant Government agency (e.g. Centrelink).

What if I have to make a claim?

You can make a quick and easy claim online. Alternatively, you can download the claim form, complete it and send it to us as soon as possible after your Comprehensive Insurance claim has been settled. For assistance with completing the claim form, contact us on 1800 999 977.

Send us your fully completed claim form via EMAIL (claims@ericinsurance.com.au), POST (PO Box 9106 Scoresby VIC 3179).

The following Items either singularly or collectively will form the basis of the amount we reimburse you each month for the amount of indebtedness you incur for these items (up to the cover limit of the level of cover you have selected on the Policy Schedule).

  • Vehicle Registration /CTP

Note: The above Bill Reimbursement Items must exist and/or be in place prior to the inception of this Policy, and fall due during the period for which you are claiming.

Will you pay the bills on my behalf?

No, we will reimburse to you the amount you have paid. You will need to provide us with a copy of the bill, and confirmation of you having paid the item.
Note: All items must exist and/or be in place prior to the inception of this Policy, and fall due during the period for which you are claiming.

Making a claim – Warranty

What if I have a mechanical issue with my vehicle?

Simply call our Claims Department on 1800 999 977 to initiate the claims process. You must not authorise repairs to your vehicle without first notifying us.

Who can repair my car?

We allow you to choose your repairer, however, you must provide us with an opportunity to inspect any loss or damage before you have repairs carried out. In addition, we will only cover repairs authorised to a licensed repairer and we reserve the right to nominate the repairer to be used. If you do not have a preferred repairer in your area, we can assist with arranging a quote, in conjunction with you.

What if I have to make a claim?

What if my vehicle cannot be driven?

We will pay up to $100 for any one claim, and subject to a Policy maximum of $300.

Help Reduce Insurance Fraud

Fraudulent insurance claims ultimately cost everybody who takes out insurance. It imposes additional costs on honest policy holders and wastes valuable time and resources.

If you suspect somebody has made an exaggerated or fraudulent insurance claim, you can help by calling us on 1800 999 977.

You can also anonymously contact the Insurance Council of Australia fraud taskforce 24-hour Insurance Fraud Hotline: 1300 600 444.

About your policy – Motor Vehicle

Can I add a driver to my comprehensive motor policy?

Yes, a driver can be added to the policy. In fact, all regular drivers of the vehicle should be listed on the policy. We will need to collect details such as the driver’s name, date of birth, drivers licence number, year of first licence and their driving history including any at fault accidents or traffic convictions in the last 5 years. This may impact the premium payable on the policy.

Are learner drivers able to drive the vehicle?

Yes, learner drivers are able to drive the vehicle as long as they are supervised by one of the nominated drivers listed on the policy and they comply with any applicable State laws. Normal age and driving history excesses will apply. See your policy for details.

If I am paying my premium by monthly instalments will my policy automatically roll over on renewal?

Yes, if your policy has been arranged with monthly payments it will automatically roll over at the renewal date. If anything has changed in relation to the policy we recommended you contact us to update the policy details accordingly.

Can I change the vehicle insured on my comprehensive motor policy?

The vehicle on the policy can be changed, however the policy will be re-rated to reflect the new vehicle on risk. The premium payable may be impacted. Once complete, a Certificate of Currency will be forwarded verifying the change.

Emergency Services Levy explained for our customers in New South Wales

From 1 July 2017 you will no longer pay for the Emergency Services Levy as part of your insurance premium. This fee will be replaced by the Emergency Services Property Levy.

Eric Insurance will continue to collect the ESL until this date to ensure we meet our obligations to the New South Wales government.

After 1 July 2017 Eric’s policies will no longer include the Emergency Services Levy.

I have paid out my loan to the Financier. Can I cancel my Guaranteed Asset Protection Policy?

The policy can be cancelled with a written request and if a payout completion letter is forwarded. Any applicable rebate left on the policy will be refunded to the insured.

About your Policy – Emergency Services Levy (ESL)

Emergency Services Levy explained for our customers in New South Wales

From 1 July 2017 you will no longer pay for the Emergency Services Levy as part of your insurance premium. This fee will be replaced by the Emergency Services Property Levy.

Eric Insurance will continue to collect the ESL until this date to ensure we meet our obligations to the New South Wales government.

After 1 July 2017 Eric’s policies will no longer include the Emergency Services Levy.
